We get the idea of ghosting when there’s something to gain from it. And by “get” we mean we don’t actually get it, but it makes more sense than ghosting someone after paying them.

Like, are you in the business of giving money away? If so, send 👻 our way, pls and thanks.

So anyways, back to our point. It’s one thing to be a jerk and to ghost someone BEFORE paying them. It’s like a take-backsie of all of the time and energy that you and the other person invested into your relationship.

It’s another thing to pay the freelancer the money, and then ghost them entirely. Therein lies our confusion and the fact that we’re sitting here whispering “the audacity” to ourselves over and over, while rocking in nonexistent rocking chairs in our own corners.

It’s like the opposite of dining and dashing, you know?

Oh, did we forget to tell you why we’re here today? We had the chance to chat with Marke Johnson of The Made Shop, so naturally we went on a tangent about ghosting and nonexistent rocking chairs.

Are you with us?

Marke shared insight and wisdom on all of the things: about partnering and working with family, generalizing versus specializing as a freelancer, the time his team worked on a famous murder mystery annnnnd a really weird ghosting story that’ll have you muttering “oh the irony” under your breath while you search for your own invisible rocking chair corner.

Oh yeah, and then he also tells us all about his time working with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and his thoughts about drawing inspiration without copying. We probably should’ve prefaced this summary with that fact, but the truth is that we went on a ghosting and rocking chair tangent, and lacked the wherewithal to bring it all back.

ANYWAYS!

As we all know, any time family is involved in the business, things get just a little bit interesting. Are you ready to hear it all for yourself?
